Re-review Naza Blade 250R 2013 - 10,018 KM

Its 10,018KM and gone now my Blade 250R warranty by Naza Bikes. Today she has been with me nearly 5 months.  Of course in this short relationship, there has been sweet and sweat moments.  Like a married couple who bestowed to be best to each other, it is the same with me and Blade.  Is this the best 250cc bike disregard its engine configuration in Malaysia? Let’s dig in…

Appearance
As beautiful lies in the eyes of the beholder, all I can say that Blade got look.

- Left is 250R 2010-2011 & Right is 250R 2012-2013 -
It may undergo several botox and implants from 2006, 2010 and 2012-2013 but it’s recognizably a Blade/Hyosung from its 17 litre tank. It resemble a bigger bike if compared to the previous 2012 Ninja 250R and an unwatchful eye can get confused with Blade GT650R if fails to detect the steel trellis frame of 650R.

Personally, I think this current version life will come to an end soon.  The life cycle has been around for quite a while, so it is a good move for Hyosung to create totally new design, frame and engine version.

Equipment & Handling Review
This is a very basic bike. No ABS, no combined brake, no slipper clutch unlike Ninja 250R 2013 and other performing gadget.  Its like Julia Roberts without makeup.  It has double disc brake for front but they lack initial feel.  Even my Kawasaki ZSR150 Cyclone and Modenas Elegan 150  inspire greater braking confident.  The rear also the same but I guess v-twin engine braking will help to reduce speed.

Rear absorber born from KYB and Malaysian made unlike Blade 650R of KYB Japan. The first initial impression was negative.  I have read through forums and Youtube that Blade 250R handles very well in corner be it tight or long sweeping corners.  But, it was not up there and not even close. The bike wobble at every type of corners be it medium or long sweeping corner at 100-140kmh.  I can even corner more confidently with my Elegan scooter!

So, those guys at Naza SS 15 Shah Alam service centre adjusted standard preload at second setting to the max at fourth setting.  Result? Nothing change. Sadly.  So, was it front suspension? Yes and no because the USD type fork in my opinion and some as well are too soft. Hell how came people give good remarks about its handling?

The real culprit of my bike handling finally revealed after thousands of KM with her.  Its actually the Shinko SR741 150/70 rear tyre.

This is a hard compound tyre and its meant for serious mileage rather than performance.  Therefore, it need time (mileage) to properly wear-in and shows its true character.  I also experimenting rear tyre pressure by inflating less 2KPa at 30Kpa instead of 32Kpa as recommended by Hyosung. Now, it handles great at any corner and almost at any speed  But maybe this setting coincidentally suits me and not to others. So, try it at your own accord okay.

As this is the first full-frame bike I ever ride, my cornering technique also improves as mileage getting upward. I learn to not over-do my skills and bike as it could kill me.

The meter cluster still works fine showing fuel in bar graph and time, an odometer and with 2 trips mileage of A & B.  But I believe Hyosung should put in gear indicator or at least top gear. Sometimes I mistakenly try to find 6th gear.  The brightness also can be adjusted.

Hyosung provides 3 footrest positions including standard factory setting.  In my opinion, you should try to adjust to position number 2 as I found it much easier to find neutral gear and gives more comfortable riding position.

Old and new Ninja 250R did not have this minor feature.  But funny things happened where the footrest plate did not have thread.  Rethread was done by my personal mechanic at SS7, Bangi.  So, check your footrest plate carefully before you get your Blade out of shop.

Lighting
Low beam gives very short spread of illumination about 2 to 3 meters from the bike itself.  Meanwhile, high beam just enough to highlight what is in-front and still not efficient to my standards.

Normal halogen bulb is used for 250R unlike 650R which is better and also tested by Bike Magazine.  The rear is LED and still works fine and same goes to all blinkers.

My bike experiencing high beam dysfunctional when it just reaching 1000KM and it was rectified at Naza Service Center on second service free of charge.  It was the wiring at bulb socket that did not tighten very well by those at assembly line perhaps.

Seat
Err…quite hard for rider and a bit thicker for pillion.  It is sufficient for 1 hour to 1 ½ hour ride continuously before your butt signaling to pull over.

Pillion? Not sure as no one has ever sit on it.  But my wife did have a chance to sit on a Blade 250N (Naked) way back in 2010 and she said it quite comfortable in terms of the degree of her leg bending to reach the footrest.

Engine Power
Perhaps I am not able to thoroughly describe as this is the first time I ride a 250cc bike full time.  I once ride a friend Suzuki GSXR750 2005 with PC and extra goodies on it.  His Suzi pulls like hell and my friend asked me to put it into second gear and yes I did pull it to third till 170kmh before braking.  Damn..i was scared hahaha.

The Blade redline is 10500RPM and shoot up till 13000 rpm.  Electronic started to intervene at 12500 rpm and usually I just took her from any gear till 9500 rpm only.  Remember that this is an oil cooled v-twin and there is no point of bringing the rev till red line in my opinion.

The engine pulls nicely from 30-40 kmh in fourth all the way up. It is not a rocket-pull, but a testament from good pulling v-twin from low to mid.  If not mistaken, fourth gear could take you somewhere around 130-135kmh and fifth gear top speed marked at 173kmh.  Carburetor based Blade blasted up to 180kmh but a friend of mine told me that his 2012 Blade 250R EFI could max at 190kmh after engine cut-off being removed. I think mine can go up to 190kmh also when I shaved my weight 20kg more from 91kg current.

Electronic
Blade has its bad reputation when it was first introduced in 2006 and the stigma continues till now but with a lesser effect.  The most common problem for carbs model is its kill switch sensors especially at the left stand. Then, the same goes to clutch sensors.
It was notorious also in spoiling the rectifier thus draining the battery prematurely. There are reports that the same thing happens to 2012-2013 Blade 250R but mine are still okay.  I hope they rectify quickly as it could moved away some potential buyers who expecting nothing major happens to their bike especially for daily commuter like mine.
ECU upgrades on 2013 model seeing Delphi unit taking over the job and harness job also.

Windscreen & Side Mirrors
This is standard fitted and it works fine enough to run the air away from the chest and helmet but not entirely.  Meanwhile, both side/rear mirrors shows what is trailing at the back sufficiently and it does vibrate a bit.

Sprocket Chain
My chain sprocket pin fell off prematurely with just few thousands KM.

- Original SLC Chain - It crap!! -

- RK replacement FOC -
The brand was SLC and they replaced with RK O-ring type after my complaints and a few unlucky ones.  Naza (or S&T/Hyosung) should equipped with o-ring type of chain for newer batch and they did for the latest batch.

Exhaust
Definitely not standard as I have changed it since day one of ownership to EJM muffler. You can hear the sound of my EJM here.  For me the bass and treble of EJM is just right and not too loud.  Standard muffler sounded like a Singer sewing machine!!!

There is a version of Twin Brothers Racing (TBR) for both 650R and 250R where the standard equipment is CF TBR (Black Series) muffler and new body sticker.

- TBR 250R - Picture credited to zerotohundred.com -

CF TBR muffler nowadays in Malaysia is quite famous for its problem – Broken/tear off Carbon Fibre from its housing.  I once saw this problem for a 650R  in a showroom in Cheras. I read in FB Forum saying that Naza/TBR will replaced broken CF with other types of metal.

Triple Clamp and Handlebars
Since i travel daily about 300KM, i have to do something with its racer ergonomic.  So, a quick solution is by doing these.

- Before (original position of handlebar) -
- After (handlebars on the clamp now) -
So i save about RM1000 - RM1300 for the cost of using Naked version of Blade handlebars.  Now, i have two instant riding position.  The first is touring and second is racer.

Braking
The front twin caliper came from TCIC and it have nothing to shout about as the performance is just adequate.  Even Blade have bigger disc than Ninja or alike, some rider quoted that Blade initial feel was lacking in the front and worst for the rear.

But a different story goes to 650R especially the TBR version as this bigger brother uses new disc pad material and revised brake hose.

Other Findings
1.      Plug cap problem where once it cracked, then you will suffer a loss of power tremendously. Many has report this to Naza and some replace it themselves.  Suzuki FXR 150 plug cap are common replacement for this cap.  Personally I think Naza should make a RECALL to rectify this problem soonest possible even though this is not happening to me yet.

2.      It is advisable not to ride this bike in heavy rain as it does affect the electronic of this bike.  I encountered this problem once in heavy downpour at Latar Highway (E25) where my bike experiencing unstable power around 7-8K rpm.  Exhaust also sounded very differently and engine felt hesitate to go when throttling upway.

Conclusion
This is the most suitable bike for me in terms of learning to handle a full frame superbike’s cornering, braking and others with its given price and adequate speed.  It also a good platform to learn before migrating to ZX10R or R1.
It is true that Blade gives some problem here and there but for me it depends on your luck and the problem can be rectified easily for those who stays in Klang Valley.  But if you have some extra money of a hefty RM7K  then you should go for a Kawasaki Ninja 250R 2013.

    1. Thank you bro for reading and i am pretty sure you are enjoying the bike not lesser than me :)

There is one brother i met at Shell Batu 3 asking me how's the Blade so far as he heard a lot of negative things. I said he has done the first right thing by asking directly to the owner. I believe he will be getting his Blade soon.

  2. Superb and honest review, I'm going to get a Blade 250R TBR. Any advice bro? Still in a dilemma whether I should get one. As im new to riding world , do you think blade will be suitable for newbie? FYI I never ride a clutch bike before. Hope you can give me some advice. Cheers bro :)

    1. Thanks for reading bro Steven. Well, Blade look even better in TBR for sure. Just be careful on its CF muffler and i hope TBR Malaysia will replace the CF with Titanium or whatever metal which is more durable.

It's okay if you haven't ride a clutch bike as 250cc motor is quite forgiving in terms of power delivery. In my opinion, Blade, Ninja 250r and CBR250r can be your first learner bike or you can opt for Ninja 150RR too. All of them are good bike to start with but i believe CBR is better in terms of weight as it is the lightest of 162kg, neutral riding position and ABS for higher spec.

But if you are looking for an upgrade and aiming at supersport(600) or superbike (1000) then Blade would be the best in preparing you the feel but minus the speed. What i learn is that body position does affect handling and Blade taught me well. You can go for a Blade 650 but i believe taking a step by step preparation is better than jumping to 80ps bike with 6.8NM torque.

Whatever you choose, please ride accordingly :) . Like i always telling myself, it is not what we ride, but how we ride it that counts.

  3. Hi bro..do you mind share the fuel consumption? I plan to purchase as a daily usage.total mileage daily about 130km. 60 percent highways..how bout the maintenance cost? I prefer naked version because I plan to put box for helmet and raincoats storage. Many bad things I heard about this bike. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  4. A rm21-22 of Shell Ron95 gives me 300KM before last bar blinking. Speed between 130-140kmh of 80% journey time and consists of 60% highway and 40% B-road.

For a clearer fuel consumption on type of route are as follows:
Kajang - Batu 11 - Connought - Midvalley - Kerinchi Link - Hartamas - Duta (PLUS) - Exit to Guthrie - Latar - Asam Jawa - Kuala Selangor - Sabak Bernam. To n fro are the same.

The worst happening to myself is about its missing chain pin. I heard they have improved this on latest batch. The rest are still okay..for now. Given its price, Blade should be a good commuter especially the Naked.

My advice - try reading post in MBC forum regarding other bikes performance before you deciding your bill on Blade.

    Ride safely Mr Hisham :)

    1. Thank you for your advice...sometimes I feel that, u want to purchase naza bike is like you purchase proton or perodua cars. Compare to toyota, honda and others. I'm using proton car. So far no big issues. That's why I prefer owner's view. Thanks again

    2. You are most welcomed Mr. Hisham. Yesterday i went to Naza Service Center Section 15 Shah Alam to replace one of my faulty plug cap and they replaced it both FOC eventhough my mileage is more than 10K KM.

Heard also that they have improved on issues highlighted by current owners such as chain, plug cap, absorber, electrical kinda things and others.

And i forgot to inform that Blade vibration around 120-140kmh can cause your palm numb. So, use good quality gloves.

    1. Hi Krishna. Thanks for stopping by here.

Kudos to you for having a durable economical Yam FZ150i. Well i may not in the right capacity to advice you since i am also a newbie in full frame bike.

I try to share instead of advice :) . Points to ponder are as follows:

      1) Your height as Blade is higher than FZ and seat is wider. I am about 162cm and i can't place both of my feet on the ground. I use my left or right foot to stand.

      2) Blade is heavy around 180kg++ means it will not as nimble as FZ in town specially Kuala Lumpur.

      3) Blade handlebars is placed way lower to the fork means you will have squatting racy position and pressure on your wrist is quite substantial at lower speed..say 60kmh below.

      4) If you considering pillion rider on-board a Blade, he or she at the back will not be as comfortable as FZ or even CBR250R and Ninja 250R.

Ultimately, if you use Blade for daily ride in town such as KL i would recommend Blade 250 Naked, CBR 250R, Ninja 250R / Z250 or Sym T2 for their comfy riding position. But if you don't mind about Blade 250 TBR riding position, then go ahead and enjoy your ride :).

  6. Helo bro. Im planning to buy the blade 250r. Just wondering how do I determine if the bike is a newer batch? Based from reading your blog, it seems that all the problems have been rectified for the newer batch. For the chain, I can look for the RK symbol. How bout other items like the plug cap, electronics and such? Thanks in advance. Great blog btw, very informative.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hi Amir. Thanks for reading bro. Seems Blade now becoming hot cakes in town :)

Okay, your question on determining the newer batch is quite tricky but i will try to give a limelight. I would rather use month of reported cases as a guide to determine whether that bike came from particular batch.

In my case of dislocated chain pin, several (means more than 10 cases reported in FB and question answered by Naza SC guys) bike suffered the same in February and March. As the bike is new then i would assume they are the same batch as mine. When it comes to May till now, as i could remember there are no cases reported in FB Hyosung/Naza Blade group. It means that newer batch has been rectified with new direct chain of RK and this has been verified by one of the member who bought his bike in April or May.

Regarding broken plug cap, Naza SC said they will replace the crappy Goldenboy brand with a better one. To check you may pull out the plug cap from front cyclinder head as its easier to reach. But if they still from the same brand, you may use electrical tape to insulate the whole plug cap body. It should do the work just fine.

Actually you could notice plug cap problem when your engine power become decrease and increase at almost the same time when you are on certain fixed RPM. You could feel the bike reluctant to go when you give it a throttle up. When you have this sign, it means your going to have plug cap issue.

About electrical, i believe it has been sorted out since my batch as i did not read any reports regarding this. It seems no electrical foes to worry about at the moment. Finger crossed.

It is hard to determine or guessing which parts of the engine, electrical or running components going to "kaput" but when things are fine, the Blade shines for sure.

With me travelling quite far for daily work, it is a gamble as someone says when i trusted Blade to do the job. It's true. It's gamble. But it worth it and hope yours too bro Amir :)

  8. Once again, very informative. Looks like im gonna get a blade soon. hehe. Keep up the good work bro! Thanks again.

    1. Hi bro Muhammad Syawal. So sorry for late reply. Regarding your query, i assume you means front master brake pump. Honestly i am not sure which model could retrofit Blade master pump. I have googled few websites and there are sites that sells this parts such as koreanbikeparts.com and none at ebay as at today.

Maybe you could ask experience mechanic and perhaps comparing Suzuki parts which suits Blade. If you are ordering body panel from Naza, i guess they should have it on stock logically. Here is their SS15 Shah Alam SC number 03-5512 8788.

I think you could try google the parts as well and hope your problem be rectified soon.

    1. Conversion was done with Amir Sg Chua/SS 7 Bangi, tel 017-297-4110. Amir has taken care of my Elegan well for the last few years, so i trust him on any repair for any of my bikes. Cost would be below RM100. The job seems easy, but need to be extra careful as blade handlebars are quite fragile.

  12. Thanks for your info! Really appreciate it, think to do make conversion too in a short time. One more thing, do you experience loss power after a long journey? Because mine got that problem after a long journey. I travel around 100 km one way everyday, and do you think it possible if we just modified it db killer (silencer) without changing stock muffler in term of want to get more power and nice sound?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have posted the vid bro Nasir. Kindly check it out. So far i did not suffered any power loss after long journey. I am not sure what caused it. But if yours are an EFI, maybe you could reset it by disconnecting battery terminal for 5 minutes. There are many experienced owners in FB group and i believe they could source you the possible answers.

Stock muffler i believe can be modified but so far i have not come across any samples who have done the same. The cheapest in the market is EJM for 250R/N Blade only. I have tested both standard and EJM. In term of power, it almost the same but way better in sound as compared to standard.

      Delete
    2. Sory bro Nasir. I overlooked your post. For your info, i never experienced loss of power in or after long journey. But after last service i found out that my RPM just stick at 10K. I need to rev it up till cut off then only it goes normal. It happened again yesterday. Not sure why but as i normally cruise at 8-9K RPM, then its okay for me.

I believe a good exhaust mechanic can do it with standard muffler but it will cost a bomb should you need to buy the standard exhaust again. It is better to keep the original and buy an aftermarket muffler.

    1. Thanks Dev for reading my blog. I am happy for you because you will be using this bike as a learner bike before throttling the Fireblade.

It is always good to know our limit on a limited machine like Blade 250R before migrating to a bigger one. With that way, we will ride the bigger 150PS bike in a safe way and can fully exploit its power much sooner.

    1. Sym T2 250i is quite a looker. I have not test it before but supposed it lighter than Blade Naked, have smaller tank capacity (14 litres) than Blade's 17 litre and smaller rear tyre.

With T2 you will get lesser HP of 24.6 as compared with Blade at slightly 28.8HP. It may not significant, but at 250cc, any increase of power is welcomed.

My advice is you have to test both bikes. If you do not have the opportunity, do sit on each bike to at least have a feel in terms of ergonomic. Blade Naked position might be a bit racier than T2.

Parts wise I cannot comment but I suspect any parts from SYM would costly too based on my experience with Elegan scooter.

Here is the link to Blade Naked test ride from Malaysian perspective at http://autoshift.net/v2/index.php/component/content/article/45-naza-bikes/118-naza-blade-efi and credit to the writer too.

  15. Hi bro...very good explanation from ur blog. I have question, what are maximum speed standard blade can achieve? Also, what is the ED speed when ride? Is it comfortable to ride between 110 to 130kmh without any additional effort required by biker and engine? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks bro Hisham for stopping by.

Max speed varies according to people (by weight of the rider) as some would say 163kmh to 180kmh. Mine was 173kmh for the last few days and my weight now 90KG.

I believe what you meant for ED is economy right? If so, I would say anything below 110kmh will make our bike tank happy.

Yes, it is comfortable to ride between 110-130kmh (mine was 120-140kmh). Engine did not feel stress (140kmh @ 9K/max 11.5K RPM) and the wind did not affect my body and my helmet too nastily. Should you install bubble screen (hard to find), I believe it will give wind protection even better.

    1. hey..sorry i cant stop the urge to budge in..hehe..standard 250 2013 model with standard muffler and shinko tyres with the riders weight around 90 to 100 i would say top speed of 182 kmh(that guy freaking pass me while going uphill)..depends the wind and riding position..what i meant for riding position is you really need to hide behind your wind shield as low as possible..kiss the tank if you can..heee..my bike last standard top (before the 1st piston upgrade)was 179 kmh and im 88 kg in weight couldnt go anywhere above 179 because of the cut off.
for 2013 facelift model i strongly recommend changing your 'dog bone' as it would prolong your monoshock life span but the downside is the rear will rise couple of inches..
A great guy from Paya Jaras gave me this advice..pay attention to your engine oil level..top up when needed..always have it full..great advice because as for me 'red line' is the candy during a ride and im always going after the candy but my bike still going strong even at 45k millage with out any engine problem..
i write based on my experience correct me if im wrong..great review by the way..very informative and precise..

    2. Dear Sir,

Thanks for sharing your experience here. I have a chat today with Khailmy (head of service centre, I presume), he said standard muffler should be faster than EJM but lower pickup than EJM. EJM suited mostly for carburetor Blade. I will change to standard once I replaced my current tyre to its original profile. My engine now working extra hard to get the same speed before I changed my tyre.

You mentioned a great guy from Paya Jaras, I assumed it should be Mr Bard right? Yup, I checked my oil before ride. You are a fast rider too when you mentioned about "candy" : ) and thanks to you because I have another testimony regarding Blade performance. I will post it as title.

Thanks bro for visiting and do share your experience too ya.

And also, the changes must be made every 10000km..do you face this kind of problem? ? Thanks

    1. Hi bro Hisham and thanks again for visiting.

I find it quite interesting fact that your friend mentioned lost of power after 10K KM due to coil problem and need to be changed at every 10K KM for his brother's Blade.

Well, I try to look for my Owners Manual just to check any official instruction to replace coils at every 10K KM, but sadly I misplaced the very important book already.

As for my Blade, I once experienced terrible loss of power due to broken plug cap. Meanwhile, a slight loss of power between 7-8K RPM during a heavy rain. But today, I ride in a terrible rain from Ijok till Tg Karang and my engine are still okay. It clocked more than 15,000KM now and I am addicted to its v-twin power even more :)

Does your friend brother's Blade is carbureted version? Maybe from there we could establish some facts based on common problem faced by carbureted version Blade.

    1. Yes bro Nasir, I did reached 173kmh before and today I just tested it again but till 10,500rpm only. The speed was over 160++kmh and I have another 1000rpm to go before redline.

As you know, I equipped my blade with EJM right away from the 1st day it went out of shop and I did not done any calibration. Maybe the EFI managed to 'learn' the muffler beforehand.

So, in your case might be resetting the ecu could yield higher top speed with ejm. Btw, what is your rpm at 153kmh using EJM?

      Delete
    2. Hi bro, at 153kmh using EM is around 9,000rpm (front sprocket size 15) 10,000rpm (standard size 14 front sprocket), my bike also equipped with iridium plug, and right now I just use back my standard muffler, maybe next Tuesday I will try its top again. If still didn't reach more than 150kmh I try your suggestions to reset my ECU. BTW, thanks for your info bro

    3. Hi bro! Last week I just reset my ECU and test it top speed, your opinion regading resetting ECU is true, it manage to reach 163kmh. Thanks for your info. But if compare it FC, I think using standard muffler is more economic than EJM, top speed are same but EJM got more pick up than standard.

      Delete
    4. Glad it increases bro Nasir and i agree too on FC usage. For my Blade, FC with EJM is a bit more compared to standard.

  21. Hai bro.. I'm so craving for naza blade 250 gtr..it is cheaper than other motorcycle on its level. I thought it will cost aroud 20k at first. It is look sporty and i fell in love with it. The only thing i dissapointed with that bike is, it has only 5 gear not 6..other bike will have 6gears, and it looks cool for me. Is this bike is more power than kawa 250 2013?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Actually with 5 gears, power delivery for Blade 250 gtr is sufficient enough. Blade is a v-twin and I believe the torque is widely spread without need to rev hard till redline. Thus, not requiring 6th gear.

As I could remember, I did clicked from 4th to 5th gear with speed up to more than 140kmh. More than that, it already out of puff.

Hp and torque for Kawa 250 2013 is about the same and the difference only at engine configuration plus equipment trim. With Kawa you will get slipper clutch and reliability(?). Top speed? Well depending on rider and affected by wind, route condition and etc, but overall it should be around 160-170kmh.

    1. Congrats bro Ashraf for becoming one of the Bladers. I forgot to post on what to check when picking up new Blade from the shop. There are cases that I read on this below the bar EO. Seems those guy at factory fill in just one bottle.

So please top up immediately bro and any type of semi synthetic engine oil rating 10w/40 such as Maxoil, Motul, Bell Ray and others can be used. Be careful also with the new tyre as it still slippery and avoid last minute braking or following too close with moving objects in front.

    2. tqvm bro...is it motul 5100 (if im not wrong) is suitable for d blade

      Delete
    3. Yes bro Ashraf, semi syn Motul 5100 is suitable enough and Naza Service Centre (SC SS15 Shah Alam) also using it as their stock. I stick to Maxoil Semi Syn Ultra now as it is a bit cheaper.

  24. Hi bro... nice review and dare I say one of the more comprehensive ones out there.

I'm seriously contemplating on getting one myself. My only reservation is the ride comfort and whether I can withstand the daily commute. FYI, I'm currently riding a Naza GTR 150, so I'm quite familiar with Naza and its many shortcomings.

So, coming back to the issue of ride comfort, you and I seem to be of similar dimensions, I'm 94 kgs and 164 cm thus the relevance of your opinion.I travel about 70 km daily... By the way I take the GrandSaga from Kajang - Lebuhraya Barat Timur, Federal Highway and Jalan Universiti. so what's your take? Thanks in advance bro.

    1. Yesterday, I went ballistic from Sabak Bernam to Kajang departing from 6.08pm and arriving 7.38pm without any stop due to emergency at home. I normally would not do that and normal journey is around 2 hours. My back, wrist and thigh normally started to ache when entering traffic jam at Kerinchi Link toll booth heading to Midvalley and all the way till Plaza Phoenix. Yes, it is tiring when you have to ride this 180kg bike at speed between 40 to 60kmh for the whole 15km.

But, it is entirely a different saga when I travelling from Kajang to Sabak in the morning. My back, wrist and thigh seem just fine and tired is the last word in my dictionary. Traffic jam starting from Toll Batu 9, Connaught, Taman Desa, Midvalley till Angkasapuri seems nothing. The same goes when I heading to Shah Alam via Toll Batu 9, Connought, NPE, Federal Highway and Shah Alam in the morning or late evening.

So, the fatigue is mainly due to long hours on the saddle rather than the traffic condition itself. That is why I advised Blade rider to have a quick stop after 70-80km ride or after 1 hour of journey. In my case, bringing the handle above the triple clamp and adjusting footrest position also improves my ergonomic significantly.

Meanwhile, I could not give a detailed comment regarding pillion comfy as I am riding solo. But, my wife did mention that she felt okay when she sat at the back of a Blade 250 Naked. I guess the best way is to bring your pillion to test the ergo. Other thoughts that I would like to raise is maybe you need to be extra careful when you ride at slow speed or when making a stop as weight at rear seat may affect handling or stability.

    2. Hi... Thanks for the tips. Nothing beats the view of an actual rider of the bike. Though i've grown accustomed to numbness on my fingers and occasionally my wrist, I cant say the same about my back... After all I'm not that young anymore. Sigh.

Your views have definitely injected a sufficient amount of confidence for me to make this leap. I've never owned a sports bike before so it is an uncharted territory for me.

I'm also contemplating on getting one of those collapsible side bags for my rain coat and what not. Any thoughts on those?

      Delete
    3. You are most welcomed bro Kamal and thanks for reading this blog.

Well, Alpinestars side bag seems okay and I believe there are other marques too in Mudah.com . For myself, I am using Deuter Race for the past 3 years...hope to get Alpinestars Aero Tank bag soon.

Do you plan to get a 250R bro Kamal? My friend wanna let go his black Blade. Mileage should be less than 100KM.

    4. Thanks for sharing your thoughts bro. I certainly appreciate the insight. A back pack is not an option for me as it would be something which has to be carried by my Mrs. And I don't want the risk of her getting a backache of sorts in the process...

About your buddy's bike, I would have to turn it down (as interesting as it sounds) because I'm looking at buying new this time - I've had my fair share of owning pre-loved vehicles, if you know what I mean.

  25. Bro. I was wondering should i take 650 blade or er6n 2013. I kinda in dilemma right now. Im using my cbr250r for my daily ride and wanted to upgrade to 600cc. Can i have your opinion bro?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Congratulation bro Tariq for your forthcoming upgrades and starting gradually from 250cc.

As you are currently riding a CBR250R, I would recommend Er6n over Blade GT650R (I assumed that you actually mean for GT650R as they stop producing Blade 650 now). Here is why:

      1. Riding position not so much different eventhough Er6n is a naked and CBR is a sport. You will feel at home quickly and comfy on Er6n. Blade is more radical and requires more input from the rider.

      2. Er6N is more pillion friendly rather than Blade. Your pillion will loves you more.

      3. EO for Er6n is much more cheaper as it requires 2 litre compared to Blade 4 litres. Easy on wallet for Er6n.

      4. Lots of accessories around. You named it, then you will have it. It is like buying a Gucci at Petaling Street. Blade is hard to find and your next best friend would be eBay.

But do consider Blade, should you care the followings:

      1. Price. Blade is way way cheaper than Er6n.

      2. Sound. Blade sounded better than a parallel twin Er6n (using full Scorpion system on Er6n will improves the sound significantly)

      Happy hunting bro Tariq.

  26. Bro

I actually posted earlier but probably you inadvertently missed my posting or something amiss with the system. Oh well...

Anyway, I am interested to have your opinion on the riding position. Going by your description of yourself, we seem to share similar dimensions so what you feel on the bike will most likely be what I will feel - well at least roughly. FYI, I travel about 70KM a day with pillion. My daily route would include Grandsaga, Lebuhraya Barat-Timur and Federal Highway.

    Appreciate your thoughts bro! Thanks!

  27. Thank you bro for your help. I really do appreciate it. Honestly i like bout blade more than er6n is because like you said, the sound is so much better than er6n and another thing is because blade is a superbike type but im using my bike for my daily ride.

  28. And one more thing i was thinking to take blade cause it is more cheaper. But honestly i dont really dare to use blade cause sorry to say this but ramai ckp motor ni cpt rosak ye bro?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes bro Tariq, I agree that pricing is the main factor Blade would be in the shopping list of a price cautious buyer.

Regarding “cepat rosak”, I quite agree as I am experiencing it myself with things like plug cap, chain clip and high beam socket. But, as Blade community is quite strong, problems are shared and others who have not experiencing it will take precautions or rectification.

Other brands may have shortcomings too. Therefore, it is good to troll owner’s remarks or established group so that we are prepared to what is coming. I once read a Blade 650 rider who has done more than 30K KM and surprisingly nothing, nothing has gone wrong with his Blade except normal wear and tear.

My friend using Er6n as his daily ride also never experiencing any shortcomings. Are both of them amazing or lucky? I guess both. But given the Blade pricing factor, Blade could be double amazing and double lucky.

Ride safe bro Tariq :) .

And have no experience about it I also didn't know how to ride a clutch motor! But nothing stops u from trying right, so what do u think about blade 250, sym t2, honda and Kawasaki most suitable for beginner like me and the price is cheapest among all. And now currently I ride a sym e bonus Kapcai looking towards the superbike zone. What is the difference between naked or no naked. And my ride journey is weekend or no more than 150km per day! I hope u can cure my dilemma. Which motor maintenance is the lowest. I ride motor with average speed not like a F1 racer. I think u know better than me. Please help me

    1. Hi bro, i will answer it shortly. Feeling not very well for the last few days.

    2. In terms of price, cheapest surely goes to Blade Naked. All brands have its sweet and sour taste as for me there is none almost perfect bike per say.

Naked should give a tiny protection over wind blast should you do over 120kmh but installing aftermarket windscreen would help. Faired bike hides it better but sporting position like Blade R would bring the issue of ergonomic and finally increase chiropractic bill.

In terms of maintenance, I can’t say much other than to survey and compare price for common parts such as brake pads, signals, windscreen, headlamp, body panels and other visually seen parts. For me the more the cylinders equals to higher maintenance. It is actually hard to gauge which bike is easy on wallet but less broken means less negative flow of money. So, reliable bike is the one to choose and usually the stronger brand names promise this.

You did mention you will do around 150KM on weekend and in my opinion you should go for a comfortable riding position and a faired bike too. Therefore, a Honda CBR250R or a Kawi Ninja 250R is the way to go. Get an ABS version (CBR have this combined ABS) to keep your safer level at a higher degree.

Afterall, it is all your choice bro. Do test ride or at least have a feel on each bike before you decide and don't forget to read reviews too. I would like to know too which would be your final choice.

      Happy hunting.

  30. Firstly, great review! Secondly, 4 weeks ago i bought a 2013 Blade 250 naked efi and just had the 1st service done today at 1160 km. All is well, The bike is perfect for my 180 cm frame. Only comment is, due to the riding position of the naked, the wind on your body at speeds above 120 kmph is a bit rough (haven't gone above 130 kmph yet since bike is still in its 2nd stage of break-in period). A couple of questions though. 1. Do you know how much it would cost to put in a top box, if the bracket is readily available, and how would it affect the handling? 2. The guy at the dealership told me I should replace the stock exhaust since it was made to suit the colder climates of Korea, and not changing it might result in engine overheating (oil drain, damaged gaskets, cracked pistons etc) if the bike is used often for long distance travelling. Is this true? Thanks in advance.

    1. Bro Mojo, sorry for late reply. My bad.

First of all, congrats and welcome to the world of v-twin. I am not sure on the cost of top box, but I do remember one Blade 250 Naked done the same by having Givi top box and bracket too. You may contact Givi directly to get quote for the goods.

The bike look balance in my eyes and I would guess it would not affect that much in handling or even top speed but do care on the max weight permitted at the rear as advised by Blade’s owner manual.

Your dealer seems wants you to buy an aftermarket slip on or muffler  . Personally, I don’t think it will affect engine performance or reliability as engine health is not determined entirely by an exhaust. Muffler for me is just a part to emit whatever left in combustion chamber after being “calculated” by ECU, compressed by injection and inputted by sensors. It is also a part to tune the song of our bike. I did try the standard muffler for a few days and nothing weird happened.

Being an international manufacturer and like many other, I believe Hyosung conducted test in different kind of climates to suit different kind of market. Therefore, you may use it without any hesitation.

Safe ride bro and I do envy your relax riding position : )

    But i have a trouble though.. i notice there's a
1.hole beneath the gas tank cover (the ring cover thing and the screws holding in place, there's one hole in between the screws, doesn't look like something fell off) and
    2. when i fill up the tank on 'E' i only got up to about 11 litres or so.. could it be the reserve holds 6 litres or the whole tank does not hold as enough fuel like the specs said?

    1. Good day Mr Kiong and I am sorry for unintentionally lured you towards Blade hahaha.

First of all, it is great as nothing happens yet and I hope it stays that way. I experienced a sudden engine shut off last two days but after 10 seconds by switching off the engine and ignition, it managed to start again without fuss. I gone through heavy rain yesterday but nothing happened too.

On your question no 1, I will try to have it a look to check and compares with mine also. On no. 2, after changing to new Duro tyre, my mileage increases up to 320km before the last bar goes bling-bling. i did try almost 30KM after the last bar bling and i refueled about 13 litres.

  33. Hello bro. First of all, thumbs up for your great and complete reviews of the bike. I've been reading your blog for several months now as you provide the most comprehensive answers for all problems of this bike. Thus, I really need your opinion and advice, please. I'm a young rider who intends to jump into the world of superbikes. So, a 250cc sportbike is preferably my choice as a beginner. I'm in dilemma right now between choosing a new Naza Blade 250R EFI or a second-hand Kawasaki Ninja 250R SE EFI 2011-2012 version. These two are my most preferred options as my budget is quite restricted (below RM16k). For your information, I will use it as my daily commute in town and also long-distance trip of about 400km. I've been searching around and found a few well-maintained Kawasaki bikes. My height is 174cm but my weight is only 60kg. I will also have a pillion on my bike sometimes. So, which is the most suitable one for me in term of ergonomics and handling? Both bikes have their own pros and cons that make it very hard for me to make the final choice. Your point of view will be very helpful. Thanks a lot. :-)

    1. Hi bro Saufi and thanks for pitting in here. My apology for late reply to you, Kiong and others.

Firstly, congrats to you coz conducting survey before you pen down your decision. I hope we could all be a wise consumer and perhaps this consumer power will make businesses more focus to what we want rather than just "telan" whatever they provided.

Your question is really a tough one. Both bikes have their pro's and con's. in my opinion, for ergonomic, you must test both or at least sit on it. Better still to ask your pillion to test also. I assume you shouldn't have big problem on both bikes with your given height but i reckon Ninja is much comfy than Blade. So, that is one point lead over Blade.

Ninja 2012 is also lighter than Blade, so it should be nimble to negotiate in tight traffic. The rear 130/70 tyre also contribute to this. Another Ninja plus point is the standard fitted handlebars put less pressure on your wrist and is more easy on your back.

Coming back to pillion comfy, i feel Ninja is better as the tail is not as high as Blade. So, your pillion could ' hide and tug' nicely behind you. I think it is fair to consider pillion opinion too before making purchase even though they wouldn't be at the back for most of the ride.

Actually it is very hard for myself if i am in your position too. But when it comes to reliability, this is the utmost point to consider. Remember those days when we buy cupchais like Ex5, gsx110,fx125, Ss2, Rg,K1 and things like Rxz, Panther, kips family, tzm, we never ask about its reliability but instead common question like 'berape top speed?' and price. For me, a bike should be trouble free for the first two years of ownership and just fill-in the fuel, change lube, sprocket, brake and tyre. This is what a reliability all about.

Please do share here on what you will choose : )

      Delete
    2. Hello bro. Firstly, my apology for this late reply due to some commitments I had to face. Thanks a lot for your brilliant opinions about both bikes. However, I need your clarification about the new Naza Blade GT250R EFI. Due to its V-Twin engine configuration, how does it performs for a long distance trip? Will it suffer significant loss of power and torque? This will be vital guidlines for newbies like me before making the final choice. Thanks again :-)

      Delete
    3. So far this small pot v-twin served me well in mostly 22,000KM since early February. If I could recall, significant loss of power only happened when she suffers broken plug cap. A minor loss of power happened twice in the mid rev but it goes quickly as it happens.

I think I have stressed her engine quite a lot with torturing session starts in the morning KL jam and continues to highway and state road. Previously I run her for 1 hour then pitting in for a quick stop. Now I push her non-stop for almost 1 and half hour at 8-9.5K rpm with 130-145kmh for 150KM one way. A point to ponder is that this inherent v-twin configuration does give you that vibe but still tolerable.

If it not entirely reliable, then I am asking trouble for myself, right? So, under my seat there are tools to open that fatty fuel tank to fix plug cap problem should it arise. Hope she will stay fix and healthy for a long time.

    1. Bro teck, i'm in the midst of preparing my reply. Yours is quite a tough one to answer hahaha.

    2. Bro, first of all, you should keep your RXZ. I saw two new unit of Catalyzer RXZ sold between 13K to 17K at Kuala Selangor. Regarding your RXZ speed, have you measure it with GPS speed? If it quite accurate (+-5kmh), then I would say your RXZ is quite fast.

Okay, now let us go to your choice of bike based on your given situation.

      1) Zx2r and Blade 250cc can do long distances at medium speed, let say around 130-140kmh. More than that, I personally would say the engine is working at stressful level. Some says that oil cooled is better than water cooled, but I guess there is no supporting data to it. Meanwhile, Kawa RR 150 could do the same speed without no fuss too (based on my experience with ZSR Cyclone) and Blade 650cc would have the advantage of doing above 160kmh at a much more relaxed engine speed.

      2) Save fuel would be subjective too in my opinion as it depends on weather, traffic and how we ride. If you selected two stroke, you need to consider a good 2T oil too and it will cost an addition to you. Like in my case, I may upgrade to Blade 650R because I believe my fuel consumption (FC) would not go far from my current 250R if I am doing speed around 130-140kmh. The logic is like this, if my 250R speed is 140kmh @ 9000rpm, then with 650R my engine RPM would be much lower ( 6-7Krpm equals to 160kmh for 650R) and thus FC is more or less the same. The principal is that the higher the RPM, more fuel is needed too.

      3) Blade 250R can’t go at 200kmh. A known rider of mine removed its cut off and managed to get 190kmh. His weight is around 90kg I guess. So, a skinny rider may get 200kmh. For ZXR250R, I believe that baby Ninja could do more than 200kmh. Kawa RR can’t get 200kmh (actual GPS speed). 650R can do 230kmh or more.

      4) As you are already accustomed to medium speed (140-180kmh), I would say you could opt for 650R or even extend you choices to CBR500R, Kawa ER6F or even if you could wait, consider CBR650F 2014. Just remember to give yourself an ample time to get use to the bike power and handling before stretching it to max.

      Ride safe.

For example, a problem regarding to meter of Elegan is happening to a few unlucky one. Mine is still okay eventhough their ownership is newer than mine. Heard that the meter cost a bomb.

Your friend did not send it back to Naza for warranty claim? How reliable this bike is, only Naza knows about this as they have the sales figures and perhaps data regarding broken/problematic bike reported to their SC/dealers. But, they won't released it for sure. I would advice you and others to join FB group and read articles/comments from other owners/web group. This is the only way to avoid perception and to have own judgement.

      Ride safe.

Okay, I tried to measure it but I had difficulties to place my WP as I do not have tank bag. But when I witnessed the speed test, they said it will have around +-5kmh tolerance.

Ohh..when can I have my tank bag?

  42. Bro, i just bought blade250.. and also just read your blog... i wanna to ask 2 question:

    1. You made some modification on your handle.. what is that for? I'm not very clear about that.. are you modified to naked handle? And did that modif improve ridimg comfort?
    2. Why its hard for me to get N from when engine running like when i stop at traffic light i cant get to N. I hv to switch off the engine then i can easily get N...

    Thanks bro for your help

    1. Firstly bro, thanx for reading.

      1) Handle modification of my GT250R is done to raise the height of the handle on top of triple clamp from its original position. This is to improve ergonomic and reduce fatigue in long run. Standard riding position and handle position is no doubt too racy for my usage.

      2) Its still new bro. Give it a try after 1st or 2nd service. It should be better as mileage increases but a use of good EO could bring a different too. Other than that, you could change to N immediately before making a full stop of your bike.

Ride safe bro and let your tyre runs in for a few hundred of KM.

    2. AWESOME REVIEW!!! I will get the Naza blade 250 R soon. Quick questions .

      1. How does it feel to enter gear with this bike? My bro's kawasaki 250z has a "Thak" noice when I enter the gear"
      2. Which service center will you recommend to service this bike? Im in KL
      3. Your personal email of Facebook profile so that we can keep in touch :)

    3. Thanks bro. Just wanna help those who interested in this bike to have an insight from the actual owner.

      1) Thak sound for first gear is quit normal. For the rest of the gears (up to 5th) is sound normal as it should. I normally change gear up by leaving a few rpm/breath so that it will smoothen the gear changing process.

      2) For first three services, just go direct to Naza Service centre. After that for normal routine service, you can do it outside or where you bought your bike. There is one in Cheras batu 11 (shun yue?) who claimed that they are able to do service for Blade. But I never try them before.

      3) perhaps I wanna go low profile for the time being ha3. Appreciate bro for asking.

    1. Hi bro Jeevah.

Your concerns with spare parts actually depend on what type of spare parts you requires. Your salesman might have experiencing some difficulties before, thus making that statement. It is good to check directly with Naza Service Centre Shah Alam on any matters pertaining to parts.

Yup, it is true that some parts from Suzuki can be shared such as oil filter from VS125, disc pad from RG, plug cap from Belang/FXR and few more. You can browse this more in FB Group.

  44. Hi bro,

Saya memang berminat nak angkat Blade 250r GTR, tapi berat saya 57kg tinggi 162, berapa topspeed dia boleh pergi ? Saya ni baru nak menceburi bidang superbike ni.

Gunakan sebelah kaki utk tahan motor bila berhenti/naik.

      Choose wisely bro : )

    1. With TBR edition on 250R, you will get a nicely sounded TBR muffler/exhaust and striking body decal plus a different look on seat (got one stripe on it if not mistaken).

With 650R TBR you will get all as the above 250R TBR but with additional new brake hose for more efficient stopping and feel.

  47. Triple Clamp and Handlebars - How does it feel after the installation, is the bike handle higher? is it OK to install this? I like to have the as I would like to enjoy my ride instead of leaning all the time. Also how much is this? and the address of the place you've installed them?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The racer leaning position transition to seem-like-touring-style benefited me significantly in ergonomic and it improves handling (in my own opinion) in slow traffic. Pillion I reckoned, would be in better seating position too.

Meanwhile, the wind blast is still tolerable and is easy on your chest even when doing more than 150kmh.

Amir is the one who owns this idea of converting. For further info, you may contact him directly via my post regarding his phone number. Thanks Chris for stopping by here in my space.

So, now 150-160kmh felt "slow" right? I felt that too now. I now learning bit by bit to brave myself to open the throttle while lapping and "have a feel" the limit of the tyre and the bike as a whole.

Therefore, I may be upgrading to 650 this year. Until then, ride safe bro and honked me should we met on highway.

    2. Hi Guys, Went to Naza Bike Sdn Bhd in Shah Alam to order a blade (Yes, I'm getting it too after reading this blog). However, I found the new 250 GTR blade at the store has new features compare to the shop ones that I saw in KL. Below are the comparison that I can see, not sure anything else.

      1. Triangle Exhaust Pipe
      2. New tires design (MRF)
      3. Rear brake (Single Pump /piston with wider diameter)
      4. Increased of rubber in plug cap (from 20 to 30%)
      5. Plug Cap temperature increase from 250 to 270 celsius.

This new specs blade price is the same with the old one. The guys at Naza Bike confirmed that this is new specs.

If you need the pictures, please let me know?

I am thinking to buy naza blade 250 gtr or kawasaki ninja 250r , and my budget is tight, blade will be abit not so stress for me to pay, because I still need pay for saga flx for 3 more years and save money for next car and house (just a future plan), ninja 22k is heavy for me to pay. The blade can change riding pose after add triple clamp? I scare I will be tired for the pose, because I am new. Balde 250r, gtr and tbr what the different? Which u will suggest for me? Hope to get a help from you :) and thanks for the great review!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks bro MaxKhai for buzzing in.

Oh dear, in a few days time it will be my first anniversary with Blade. Seems like I owned her just for a few months back and I salute you coz you have already planned for your future based on budget. My advice is to buy a house according to your take home pay.

Regarding your query about the heighten handlebars, yes it did gave me a different riding position and one word to describe it is COMFORTABLE. Be it either for long journey or short one. My combo of adjusting the footrest together with handlebars seem working for my height.

The army of Blade 250cc consists of three versions. One is Naked (Blade 250N), second is Fully Faired (Blade GT250R or certain people called it Blade GTR 250) and lastly Blade GT250R TBR. One thing to ponder is that the Blade Naked has only 1 front disc brake and non-adjusted footrest. Meanwhile with Blade TBR you will get an extra show plus with some extra go. You get few ponnies (HP) higher than standard Blade GT250R as you are using Twin Brothers Racing CF Black series muffler. Other things that you will be getting are different seats (a red line stitching in the middle). Of course, the TBR stickers are all over the body too.

With TBR definitely you will get a much better sound than a standard Blade GT250R. So, save you time also in finding and install too. But, for your info, TBR muffler may not last (ie, broken) and if it did, you still can claim warranty (10K KM or one year).

The next question whether it suits you or not is entirely depends on you bro. I would advise you to try sitting on each bike/version and considers your usage (town/highway/got pillion or not/refer to my answer to some similar question before) wisely.

Lucky you too as Blade GT250R have finally being reworked or improved for 2014 and I hope you will get much better ride than us.

    1. Bro Pouz, thanks and welcome.

Honestly bro Pouz, this is a tough question and more or less the same with others who interested in non-Naza brand but also turns the eyes towards Blade 250R/650R.

Yamaha is a big name and XJ6 (be it F or N) has been around with us for more than 5 years now. The cosmetic changes (Racing Blue livery) in my opinion indicate its lifecycle is nearing to an end soon. Moreover, Yamaha gives us MT-07 and MT-09 to play with in 2014. I believes, in terms of performance, XJ is as great as other Japs brand too. The same goes to 4 in-line sexy sound. Reliability, availability of spare parts and maintainance I am not quite sure as I did not survey this bike thoroughly. So, do troll around group forums/FB, MBC and others to obtain as much information as possible. Blade 650R is no exception here too.

In terms of standard condition of the bike, you mentioned too Blade TBR. Therefore, in stock standard, the winner of sound is definitely Blade with its TBR series exhaust. Performance I heard is better too as TBR kitted Blade uses special mapping to suit the exhaust system and gives extra ponnies. Blade wears braided hose and whether it is better than XJ6, I am still not sure. While in terms of value for money factor, Blade TBR will save you around 15K over the XJ. One more thing is about the riding position of each bike. Please test ride both if possible. It will help you in making decision surely.

I hope that will somehow assist you in making decision. I hope you could share here once you have decided.

  52. Bro, for the triplecamp handle bar which you've adjusted as per the picture above, is it safe? I showed your picture to the other riders, some said it is dangerous and the handle bar can come off easily, and some said must install additional bracket to support the handle adjustment. Some even, if you adjust as per the picture, the handle can come off with a single willy stunt (Of course I don't do willy). Can you please let me know your honest review? Safety is my biggest priorities. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  53. Chris,

In my opinion, it is quite safe. I asked Amir the same question when I requested him to do that. He wanted to drill into the triple camp body and tighten the readily made hole at handlebars with screw.

But I trusted him and Amat Elegan. Their workmanship.

As you already might aware, my work route is tough and challenging in terms of road condition. So far, the current position of handlebars still in tact and no cracked found. This is one thing that I checked first before ride.

As for the handling in corners and hard braking, it felt just fine and I did not notice any significant difference as with the standard position handlebars. I still remember that there are few in FB group who has done the same. So, it is good to have their say too.

Salute you Chris for taking safety as your utmost priority. Ride safe ya.

it was nice reading your review.

i am riding blade 650r. next month (march) remarks her 1st year (mileage 12000++). good bike. at least good for a beginner like me. no engine problem so far (touch wood). little problem here and there; electronic displays, front forks screeching sound, honk kaput, signal relay (like u said depends on our luck). all repaired under warranty.

very responsive engine. top speed displayed at 214km/h plain horizontal road and 219km/h 10% downhill. no modification done as yet. standard exhaust.

a bit wobbling during cornering. i solved it by increase the tyre pressure to 250kpa (36psi). perfect.

Does the bike need to stop every hour or after certain period of time for long distance travel to avoid the engine from overheating? I learn that for Blade 250r, it uses air / oil cooled system, thus it is reliable?

    1. It will not as I rode it for almost 2 hours continuously. Some say oil cooled is better as we don't have to be worried about being stucked in slow traffic. I am doing highway and Connought to Midvalley jam everyday, so far I don't experience any. Now, mileage around 33K km.

  60. Greetings Bro Ah Lek Madi, I've been reading ur blog for several times and I find it very informative and it literally convinced me to finally buy a used 250 blade. FYI, I bought a 2011 model from a friend of mine in Ipoh yesterday with less than 2000km mileage and will travel back to Kajang after breakfast this morning. 1st thing I'm gonna do is to change the handlebar height at the workshop that u mentioned. I find the racer ergonomic is a bit to extreme. I also noticed that the gear change from 1st to 2nd is a bit rough and hard plus its a bit difficult to find the neutral when stopping (Is it normal or maybe I'm not used to it yet). Look forward to learn more of this bike from you. Thanks and have a nice weekend!

    1. Bro Mirmkay,

Sorry for this very very late reply. I overlooked you post.

About the hard to find neutral is totally normal and the easiest way is to click to N when we just about to stop. Mine now is a bit hard to find N when on stationery. Meanwhile, gear change should be smoothen as mileage increases.

      Ride safe bro.

    2. Hi Bro,

Ur right bout find N just before the bike stop & now the bike gears does feel a bit smooth compared to when I 1st got my hands on it. Btw, I've tried to raised the handlebar but the brake pump hit the windshield big time unlike yours coz mine is the 2nd model. It still can be done but I hv to changed it to aftermarket brake pump. Anyway, since I'm only gonna ride this bike on weekend, I decided to maintain the original position.

Btw, you were saying bout changing the ecu setting changed to unlimited to get higher rev n top end which I think I like to do. My current top speed is 150+kmh only. Is this normal? Thanks for ur reply.

      Have a nice day!

    4. Bro Mirmkay,

Your top speed seems around normal figures but you could get more by resetting your ECU. Now we have extra choice by reflashing it to unlimited.

With regards to your battery, I think it caused by your rectifier. Have it checked and should if faulty, there are Tomz in FB group that sells it besides Naza SC very own.

sorry coz i misunderstood your post. You meant Duke actually and i thought Blade. So, please do not go to Naza SC coz they have for Blade only.

I believe all bikes with ECU can be remapped to make full use its power output but reliability must be taken into consideration also. So, do troll KTM owners/FB group/Forum to get the info.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Handling wise, both are okay.

Fuel save is a bit tricky to answer. Lets view in this way. My Blade uses RM25 for 300KM with speed around 132kmh at 9K rpm. 650R I reckoned do around 6K rpm for 160-170kmh.

Therefore, should 650R doing 130-140kmh, its engine revs much lower. Thus, the fuel consumption (FC) for 650R I believe is just a little bit more than 250R due to its extra dose of weight.

In terms of maintainance/servicing interval, 650R is at 5K KM with 4 bottles of EO as compared to 2K KM with 2 bottles for 250R. So, this fact need to be considered by owners who could stretch their choices between this two horses.

    1. Hi there bro.

Try scroll up the question as there are similar questions like yours. In short, both are capable bike and suited for beginners but depends entirely on personal preferences as most 600's in our local market are unique. Blade vtwin does not have competitor, XJ only have Benelli TnT to fight with and Kawa with its parallel twin is standalone here. So, that will sum up the engine configuration. Not to mention comparison in terms of where they come from (Japs, Korean, Conti).

If I were to choose, I will look into also the maintainance, engine sound/configuration, ease of use and riding position. Both Blade and XJ have the more or less the same power, only power delivery would be different due to different engine layout.

If you could wait bro, try forthcoming CKD Shiver if you considers product under Naza and MT07 from Yamaha as that is the badass model from Yamaha could offer now.

      Ride safe bro.

  68. Hi Bro,

Just took home my Blade 250r on Saturday, Went a few rounds in my Taman. Was fun and scary. A lot to learn before I can take it out to the roads.

    I have a few questions.

    1) There are some heat at my thigh area, where is this heat coming from ?

    2) What is the radiator look like unit in front of the engine, is it the oil cooling unit ?

I apologies if my questions sounds stupid.

    Thank you.

    1. Great news bro Mike. Congrats!!

      1) The heat coming from the engine block (inner side) and it is entirely normal.

      2) Yup, it is the oil cool housing and thus look smaller than a water cooled unit.

Easy yourself on the bike bro Mike and try to familiar the braking (front and rear), tyre and engine characteristic. Be extra careful on low speed (under 30kmh) turning also.

Ride safe and enjoy your bike.

    2. Bro Ah Lek Madi,

What's the concern on cornering below 30kmh? Mind to share your experience?

    3. Hi Bro Ah Lek Madi,

Today is my 3rd day riding the bike to work (70km to and flow normal road, highway and Penang bridge), as you mentioned most people drop the bike when its slow and its very much true as I dropped mine today when I was going out of a slopped junction turning left from stationery. I lost my left mirror (snapped) and my left signal light cover and some light scratches on the left fairing. The mistake was I turned my handle to the left with not sufficient gas and on the slope it reversed on me ( I forget I am on a sports bike not kapchai).

I guess I also have to get the handle bar switched like yours to have better comfort in riding. The bike is great and I love it.

Riding safe is the first priority for me.

      Thank you.

    4. Bro Mike,

So sorry to hear that. I should reply to your previous question sooner. Yes, slower speed below 30kmh while doing turning and the closer the handlebars to the tank, does yield greater chances of dropping.

You could minimize the risk by playing around with the throttle to give the engine some power to keep the momentum. As that was the 3rd day you rode, your balance while on slower speed will improve as more KM you clocked in. I guess traffic jam in KL does help me a lot to balance my bike while "cilok here, cilok there". The slowest speed in 4-5th gear I could managed to do is 24-26kmh.

You could find replacement for your left side mirror at FB Group GGB/NBC/Hyosung Buy, Sale n Trade and i do recommend you to join Hyosung @ Naza Blade 250/650 to get latest info about our Blade. They are a closed group, so need to wait for admin approval.

      Ride safe bro Mike.

  69. Great review bro! congrats!
FYI,Your article has caused me to buy a naza blade 250r 2013 latest batch with RK O-ring. I've got 3000km and change the plug cap (before damage). from my point of view, this bike did not bring problems to me (maybe not yet). problems that have occurred only were false N indicator(occured for 1 week) and otherwise no problems at all. Right now im using Repsol Full Syn as EO. any tips or something?

    1. Bro Haerri, congrats too for your purchase.

Gear changes should be smoother as mileage increases and you did changed the plug cap before something bad happen. Good!!! I believe there are no more side stand sensor as far i could remember from the last meeting with Naza SC. \

I advised you to install voltmeter too as additional information about your bike electrical "health" ie, battery and rectifier can be monitored. Anything else? Just enjoy your bike and maintain it accordingly with the right people/mechanic.

      Ride safe bro Haerri.

    1. Hi bro,

Tapi, lepas on off switch, dah boleh start semula.

Naza opening hours saya x sure, tapi rasanya around 9am till 5pm, monday till saturday. better call them first before come and usually hari yang agak sibuk adalah isnin - rabu.

      Ride safe bro.

Actually i dah call, tapi takde orang angkat pon.

Anyway, thank you bro. U punyer blog banyak info bagus. Especially page ni.

      TQ. U ride safe too!

But then I was recommended by my friend to have a visit at your blog. Amazingly, i read from the first until last of the comments. Very inspiring. Btw, i want to ask a few opinions from you about these types of bikes. whether yamaha yzf r25 or naza blade GT250R. Ive been told that r25 is an upcoming model that just released at indonesia. And probably will come to malaysia. So what do u think about these two bikes?

  73. Nice review on the bike...I owned a blade 250r and now it already did morenthan 28000 km...today I face a problem with it...just to check if you did come across this problem..

When I am riding around 100km/j or more...the engine suddenly die and the fI light appear...than I disengage the gear to lower gear and once release the clutch then bike start back and it become normal...after a while it happen again and need to repeat the disengage of the gear and once I stop at traffic light the engine die off again...the rpm duringnthat time is around 1000rpm...need to keep restart the bike and pull abit the throttle to make sure the rpm goes around 1500k to 2000k...the batter voltage show around 14 when riding and when idle it drop to 13 and sometimes hit 12.....I can see the light start to dim ...like when our car air cond compressor start..the head light will dim...

Izzit bcos of batter? Engine coil?

Hope you can really help me on this...

    1. Bro Kai Meng,

I experience the same for your second part of your problems and the culprit is the rectifier which drained the battery. Once i changed the battery and rectifier, it went back to normal. But, now i experience "susah mau start" problem.

My suggestion is to check the easier parts first like plug cap, sensors which is easier if you done it at SC via their tools or self diagnosed featured in Youtube by our fellow Bladers. The worst is ECU malfunctioned and things to do with magnet coil.

I yet to bring my bike to Naza SC as its due with top overhaul/valve check service. Hope in nearest time. Anyway, do share your rectification once you sorted out the problem here.

Ride fast, ride safe, do count calculated risk.

  75. Hi bro. I am Joe and am using 250 Naked and its fine till now, but recently its hard to start the engine although I have checked that the battery is still good and the plug is still good. The bike mileage is 37k++ already. Engine seems to be like breathing up and down when idle. Need to roll it every time I start. Do I need to do the Efi settings back at SC or do you have any idea?

  76. Salaam bro, a very passionate review on blade, salute on that. I do hope your insight will help others to make their decisions. Anyway I'm on my 4000km now with my 2nd hand 250naked, and fuel consumption remains at 29-28.9km per litre. This week it reaches its limit when it dies on empty tank after 420km. Luckily I was 1km away from Shell. Refueling empty tank is capped at 14.52 litre, but I think I can squeeze in another 500ml.

Now I'm experimenting with V-power Ron97, and it gives 28.9km on the first try. I've just added some additives called 3E (RM20/100ml) along with the engine oil and 20 ml into the full fuel tank. Let's see how it goes. Servicing was done at RZM Motor (bro Bard) in Paya Jaras (behind JKR Petaling). Superb service, highly recommended.

Questions; are you using ron97? Does it affect fc and performance? And how's the RXZ's double stand doing?

Hati-hati menunggang, ingat Tuhan dan akhirat semua :)

  82. I had two units of Naza Blade 250N. One unit is the carb version (9 years old already) and another one just a few weeks old. The riding position felt a little different between the two. My old blade still working fine mechanically. The problem is with the electrical system. I did some modifications with horns and add some spotlighst and you can say it is safe to conclude it is advisable to keep everything stock. Don't temper with the electrical system.
